A Sand Trap!

Takeo only moved as far as twenty feet. His ears that had sharpened during his years at the academy heard the sniffling that had occured behind him. It was the little girl of course, the other members being just past the point where the attractions of crying when something went awry was gone. What could the kid be crying over? Whatever her reason, she had stopped on the ground and decided to look pathetic instead of just getting over whatever "traumatic" situation had just occured. It wasn't as if this were a rare thing to act that way. It was just the way a young child would act. There'd be no way she would be let out of the academy when she acted like that, but it looked like she was planning on spending a while longer at the academy anyway.

Of course she couldn't just sit there. A small kid being left somewhere between the village and nowhere was a bad idea.

"What's wrong? We need to get moving."

Takeo remembered the crying child if only vaguely from elsewhere. It was at the battle arena. At that time, it seemed like she had no trouble with jumping on people's backs.

"You can ride on my back if you need to."

Sprinting was not too difficult for Takeo. Sprinting with someone on the back would only be a small skip in difficulty. Of course if she refused, he wouldn't be willing to be left behind himself. He would have no choice but to leave her.

Aki ran towards her sensei and finally reached her. She looked over to the other studentss running towards them. She turned her her gaze towards the ruins. She didn't want to look anymore so she directed the question towards her sensei.
"What had happened to this place?"

Takeo continued down his path. Where could that sensei have possibly gone in the time it took Takeo to ask permission for Hirosue to ride on his back. As he looked ahead to where his sensei could have run off to, he was surprised to notice that the ground in front of him had gotten darker. Now what could the source of this sudden shade be? Had a cloud passed overhead?

As he took his moment to casually look up, his frown of discontent spread across his face. Well, this couldn't possibly be any good. As the giant mass of sand descended as he stood there helplessly, he took his last opportunity to express his feelings in his general monotone that he used at almost all times.

"Oh, shi-"

After he took his moment to "Properly" express his feelings, the sand what it was intended to do, which involved covering him in a 10 foot layer. At least any other stupid attacks the teacher had planned for him would not be able to penetrate his new protective layering which just happened to be suffocating him at the same time.

As the light of the sun was squelched by the masses of sediment, Takeo noted that optimistic inflection sucked. That was his last thought, as the mere weight of the sand was enough to knock him out.

Mei continue to run towards her sensei. She caught up with the boy who was carried the smaller girl in his back. Lucky...
Mei looked ahead and saw her sister. Mei suddenly stopped to examine the surroudings which she hadn't paid much attention on earlier. It seemed like a destroyed city. Mei looked ahead again and saw the boy looking up at the sky. It was darker. Mei looked up too only to notice a cloud of sand. Gravity was having its way with them, now.
The boy was at the center so it covered him the most, Mei was only covered up to the waist. Good she had stopped before, or she would be at the center too. My bad... Unlucky.

Little Hirosue clung on Takeo's back.
Sprinting fast, right on the proper track.
Little Hirosue scratched her itchy eye.
Can't stop herself, and made a little cry.

Little Suweh then felt something was not right.
Looking up above them, what blocked the sunlight?
Little Suweh widened her eyes in real fright.
Jumping off Takeo's back, with all of her little might.

Little Hirosue held on to her talisman of luck.
Jade necklace wrought with the largest rock.
Little Hirosue's body comes spinning through the air.
Twisting oh so splendid, she did it with flair.

Little Suweh's luck was only short-lived.
Just as the sand monstrosity came smashing through her rib.
Little Suweh felt something snap and break.
Bit her lip, a horrible scream she did make.

Little Hirosue landed upside down.
Just as Saya dropped as if on a frown.
Little Hirosue was just beside Mei.
All as if the sandman came to play.
